New Orleans is known for its music, culture, food, bars, tours and attractions, from the famous Cafe Du Monde in Jackson Square to the nightlife on Bourbon Street there is hardly a shortage of things to do in New Orleans.
But due to the current Coronavirus restrictions “What’s open in New Orleans during Coronavirus?” is a question we hear more and more. It’s confusing; every state and city has different rules and New Orleans is no different. As New Orleans moves into its Reopening Phases, we want you to know what’s open and what are the things to do in New Orleans right now.
To answer the question, “Is New Orleans open?” Yes, with restrictions.
Here we go, what’s open in New Orleans ?
First, the New Orleans Airport (MSY) is open! New Orleans hotels and Airbnb’s are open as well, but not all of them, check out this list to find out which are the best places to stay in New Orleans right now.
Masks are mandatory when entering any business and while moving around inside. Once you’re seated, feel free to take off your mask, but make sure to put it back on if you need to stand up from your seat.
New Orleans tour companies are offering plenty of options for outdoor walking tours. Make sure to check the list below for our favorite New Orleans Ghost Tour ( The Haunted Crawl ) and learn about Madame Lalaurie from American Horror Story and other New Orleans haunted tour stories. New Orleans tours are limited to a capacity of 14 per tour, so book fast because space is limited.
New Orleans restaurants with bars are permitted to be open, but if they don’t serve food, unfortunately, they’re closed. This means Bourbon street is open but it’s not the same famous party New Orleans is known for. Currently, there is no seating at New Orleans bars and no service from the bar either, so check in with an employee to be seated. One of the best things in New Orleans is our courtyards, balconies, and outdoor seating, so make sure to take advantage of these beautiful spaces.
There are plenty of things to do in New Orleans right now but these 5 New Orleans businesses are all within walking distance and surrounded by famous New Orleans attractions – think of it as your own “What’s open Pub Crawl New Orleans” with a twist and we’re sure you’ll enjoy them.
1. Cafe Du Monde – The Famous New Orleans Coffee & Beignet Shop
It wouldn’t be a trip to New Orleans without a stop here for the most famous New Orleans beignets (think fried dough topped with powdered sugar). Bring your patience and cash (Cafe Du Monde is cash only), because it’s the most popular place on this list and the line tends to be quite long. It’s located on the edge of Jackson Square with the beautiful Saint Louis Cathedral as your backdrop, this is the perfect place to start your day.

2. The Haunted Crawl – New Orleans Creepiest Experience
The Haunted Crawl is a hilarious, creepy, history lesson wrapped into a New Orleans ghost tour that somehow ends feeling like a haunted pub crawl New Orleans – you’ve been warned!! Hear the real story of the Lalaurie Mansion from American Horror Story and the famed Axe Man who terrorized the French Quarter of New Orleans.
This New Orleans tour company is owned and operated by locals. We all know small businesses have been greatly affected by this pandemic, so we hope you can help support our local businesses.
3. MRB Kitchen & Bar
MRB is one of our favorite New Orleans bars and has been a local French Quarter local hangout for decades. The recent update to their kitchen and the food menu has made MRB the French Quarter courtyard bar to enjoy a beer (over 100 in-house) have a snack, (we recommend the Pork Belly Sandwich) while hanging with your pooch (MRB is a dog-friendly bar)!
It is the starting point for The Haunted Crawl and frequented by most New Orleans tour guides because it is one of the famous New Orleans haunted bars.

4. American Sports Saloon
The name says it all: This is the best sports bar in New Orleans – it’s the only REAL sports bar in the French Quarter of New Orleans and it’s definitely open. American Sports Saloon has one of the best balconies in New Orleans and is known for having a TV at every table outside to watch your favorite sports team while you’re visiting New Orleans. There are over 60 TVs and is the best bar in New Orleans to watch UFC Fights, NFL or any other sports you can imagine.

Saints & Sinners
One of the few Bourbon street bars open right now Saints & Sinners is the closest thing to nightlife happening in New Orleans right now. Open from 4pm until very late it is the spot to be if you’re looking for the best party in New Orleans (the kitchen is open late as well). This is the place you’ve heard about because it is Channing Tatum’s bar on Bourbon Street. On a normal weekend, Saints & Sinners will normally have a line down the street to get in and a cover charge to access their VIP Room and Balcony, but during these times there is no cover charge and seating is downstairs only.
If you’re visiting once restrictions in New Orleans are lifted, the best New Orleans bar crawl visits this place with VIP Access on a wild night that ends more like a New Orleans club crawl than a pub crawl New Orleans is known for, think Vegas party for New Orleans prices.
